Last week, I visited my sister in Pittsburgh. I was so impressed with how life is different here in Texas than in Pennsylvania. The first thing I noticed, since I was flying, is the fact that there are hills all over the place, and people build their businesses and houses on the hills. People walk a lot, there is public transportation to anywhere you want to go. There are people walking on the sidewalks. I had to remember my Mexican life skills to cross the streets (because there are too many cars). In Texas I almost forgot how to deal with all the traffic.
There are a lot of individually owned businesses, which is very good because you can actually feel the hospitality of the owners of the stores. Here in Texas, almost everything is a franchise and there isn't that feeling of personal contact.
In Pittsburgh you can see little bit of a story in every building because most of the buildings are from the 1800’s or earlier. I wanted to know the stories behind many of the building that I saw. How did they create that beautful fresco without the tools and technology of today? I began to wonder if the skills and tradesmen of today could recreate such beauty, or are we destined to live in a cookie cutter generation? The beauty of the each home or building was awesome to see. I love to see how each time period was presented in each building.
